Microneedling & Collagen Induction Therapy

What Is

Microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, is a non-surgical procedure that is performed using a handheld, pen-shaped device that uses tiny sterilized needles to make precise, microscopic punctures in the skin. These micro-punctures work by helping to stimulate the skin to repair itself naturally through a process called dermal remodelling.

Microneedling Work?

Collagen is the elastic fibres that make skin tight, smooth and appearing youthful. As we age, our skin's natural collagen levels begin to decline, but with microneedling, new collagen can be produced when the skin is punctured and forced into repair mode.

The process stimulates the skin to produce new collagen. Through a series of sessions, microneedling can increase elastic skin fibers. Microneedling also helps the epidermis (the outermost layer of skin), which naturally thins with age, become thicker and tauter.

The Best Microneedling Services in Whitby

Should You Get  Microneedling?

Wrinkles, acne & surgical scars, enlarged pores, and stretch marks can make people feel self-conscious about the uneven appearance of their skin. Skin Essence Med Spa has a variety of treatment options for such issues.

Though the thought of needles may make you cringe, microneedling is not a painful procedure. As an added bonus, microneedling typically has a shorter recovery time compared to the lasers or chemical peels that are also used to help resurface the skin and improve its texture.

Microneedling + PRP

PRP or platelet-rich plasma is a solution made from plasma (the liquid portion of your blood) and platelets which are a type of blood cell that is rich in natural growth factors and plays an important role in healing throughout the body. PRP therapy is a method of accelerating the body’s collagen & elastin production by injecting platelet-rich plasma  (made from your body's very own natural supply of blood) into target areas.

Combining PRP with a microneedling treatment will amplify your skin's healing response and increase the production of collagen & elastin much better than microneedling on its own. The growth factors present in PRP increase the healing response from the punctures caused by the microneedling. The end result is smoother, more vibrant, glowing skin!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How Can Infrared Light Therapy Help with Pain Management?
Poor circulation and the lack of oxygen and other essential molecules (i.e., glucose, Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP)) in blood vessels can cause pain or a lack of sensation. Light energy stimulates the release of nitric oxide, causing blood vessels to increase in diameter (vasodilation) and allowing more blood flow, oxygen, and other important factors to be delivered. This increase in oxygen and nutrients, along with stimulation of the light energy emitted from Celluma LED devices increases ATP production, which activates pain relieving pathways. This decreases pain and inflammation, and increases tissue regeneration in the localized area.
  • How does anti-Aging Treatment with LED Light Therapy work?
Now that we've established a base understanding of why collagen is essential as we age, let's look at the most groundbreaking and natural way to effectively generate more collagen in your body using the anti-aging effect of LED light therapy. Proven red and near-infrared wavelengths are utilized in the Celluma LED light therapy device to combat the signs of aging. These specific wavelengths of light energy are clinically verified to enhance your body's natural ability to generate collagen and elastin by activating the fibroblast cells. No prescriptions. No medications. No injections. No surgery. Just safe, natural wavelengths of effective, proven light energy.
  • How can Blue Light Therapy Eliminate Acne Faster?
If you suffer from acne, it’s likely you’ve heard of light therapy as a possible solution to your pimple woes. LED blue light therapy is the new wave of skin care for people who have tried other acne treatments, but still aren’t seeing the results they want. Light therapy used to only be available at a dermatologist’s or aestheticians office, but with the advent of affordable, effective, at-home light therapy device design, blue light for acne is becoming a household treatment that’s non-toxic, non-invasive, and really, really effective. LED light therapy works by killing acne-causing bacteria at the source, deep beneath the skin’s surface. As people across the nation are searching for more natural, chemical-free alternatives to traditional medical solutions, light therapy fits the bill perfectly. Blue LED light therapy emits specific, clinically-proven wavelengths of light to trigger an all-natural effect in human tissue, killing acne-causing bacteria, decreasing inflammation, and improving skin tone, texture, and clarity from the inside out. However, not all light therapy is created equal. Blue and red LED light light-therapy is widely used as an effective option for the treatment of inflammatory acne. One study concluded that “…blue light and red light may act synergistically in improving acne by combining antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action, rendering phototherapy with blue and/or red light an effective and safe treatment for acne vulgaris.

Pain-Free & Comfortable!

“After my first treatment I saw the results of smaller pores, less texture and overall glow-y skin right away! Amanda made sure the microneedling was as pain free and comfortable as possible! It made coming for the second treatment easy knowing I was in such good hands!” - Natalie
